Always in Different Ways - Group Art Show

“We inhabit a universe that is characterized by diversity.” (Desmond Tutu)

For the past few years, fifty to seventy participants—including people with developmental disabilities, homeless and marginalized folks, office workers, congregation members, and others—have gathered every Wednesday morning to enjoy live local music, refreshments and companionship at St. Andrew’s United Church. This year however, they also created visual art with the help of the church’s new Artist-in-Residence, Denise Tierney. Each week Denise has provided materials and various prompts to enable artists with differing and wide-ranging abilities to express their own creative visions. “The work that has been produced reveals a broad range of style and imagery,” says Denise. “Some artists have drawn on their own imagination while others are influenced by their surroundings. Several works are organized and patterned while others are random and chaotic. Regardless of technique, all of the artists take great pride in the art they produce.” Now the general public will be given an opportunity to view some of that work in Always in Different Ways, a one-day art show at the church. Organizers hope that it will raise awareness about the many lenses through which diverse groups of people see and experience their world.
