Peach Fuzz - Pantone's 2024 colour of the year

Well, what a surprise from Pantone when it announced its colour of the year for 2024: Peach Fuzz. For some background on the significance of Pantone’s colour of the year please refer to my blog entry from last December Viva Magenta - Pantone’s 2023 Colour of The Year

Peach Fuzz. Blech. I can’t imagine a more uninspired colour. According to Pantone, Peach Fuzz captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It's a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul. Okaaaaay.

Pantone states, Peach Fuzz evokes a new modernity and yes, Peach Fuzz does have a vintage vibe. It was the colour of Todd and Margo’s 1980’s designer home. It is also a colour that Wes Anderson used in some of his movie settings to create a nostalgic, dreamlike mood. I’m a WA fan so this redeems Peach Fuzz somewhat. Admittedly, it does work in certain contexts and colour combinations.

I have used Peach Fuzz in many of my paintings but I call it skin tone. It is a colour that has never taken a front seat. It is part of the supporting cast, lying underneath more stimulating colours.

Peach Fuzz. You won’t catch me wearing it. Or eating it.
