New work for a new gallery
Gallery Merrick located in the heart of Victoria BC, is hosting grand opening celebrations on April 1 and 2, 2022 from 7:00 - 10:00 pm.
I will have eleven paintings at the gallery. They are all part of my Women In Chairs series - a collection of paintings depicting women in chairs which feel representative of their personality, posture and attire. They are narrative but tell more than one story. They point the way back to the 1950’s - 70’s.
The paintings are composed of many layers of oil paint. Some areas are scraped back to reveal underlying colours. This process is fairly labor intensive and takes many days to arrive at a state of completion.
The paintings are usually done in a small series of two or three. The colour palette visually connects them however there is usually a shared theme or item. For example, a purse or an activity.
