Preparing for Recollection
It is days before the opening of Recollection, my solo art exhibition to be held at the Chapel Gallery in Victoria BC. In my experience, this is the most mind-consuming aspect of exhibition preparation.
The paintings are complete but there are many tasks left to do. All work needs to be inventoried and priced. Gallery labels need to be created and printed. Hanging hardware needs to be attached. Select work needs to be framed. Transport boxes need to be built so that I can safely and easily move the work from Nanaimo to Victoria.
There is writing to be done - an artist statement, exhibition statement and a press release. I also put attention towards advertising. This involves postcard printing for handouts and social media posts. The Chapel Gallery will advertise through their social media channels and I will through mine - primarily Instagram and Facebook. In addition, I have had the good fortune to work with Kate Cino of Art Openings who profiles and promotes artist exhibitions. Click here for her profile on Recollection.
The opening reception will include an artist talk. I think I will put a short slide presentation together so that I have something to lean on. I intend to chat a bit about my artistic practice and my intentions behind the show. It will be a new crowd of art lovers in Victoria. Hopefully, they will be engaged.
